Element is moving deeper into connected-vehicle capabilities with its planned acquisition of Car IQ, a company known for enabling vehicles to authenticate themselves and pay directly for services. The integration is aimed at giving fleets a smoother, more automated way to manage fuel, maintenance, and everyday operating expenses.
Car IQ’s technology replaces traditional cards and PINs with vehicle-initiated transactions, helping fleets cut down on manual work and get a clearer view of real-time spend. With fleets managing billions across service categories each year, simplifying payment workflows is becoming a high-impact opportunity.
Why Does the CarIQ Acquisition Matters to Fleet Managers?
Payment processing has long been one of the more tedious parts of fleet operations. Car IQ’s Know Your Machine system shifts authentication and purchasing into the vehicle itself, helping fleets:
Reduce administrative steps.
Strengthen security by removing shared credentials.
View spend in real time at the vehicle level.
Consolidate payments inside one connected platform.
It’s part of a broader push toward automated workflows that make day-to-day decisions easier and more efficient.
A Step Toward a More Unified Fleet Experience
Integrating Car IQ’s capabilities supports Element’s goal of creating a fully connected fleet environment where payments, telematics, maintenance, and lifecycle data all work together.
Kobi Eisenberg, President of Element Mobility and Autofleet, called digital payments “an important pillar of our Element Mobility strategy” and said it positions the company to deliver a “seamless, digital payments experience” that helps clients operate more efficiently.
Car IQ Founder and CEO Sterling Pratz emphasized the shared vision, noting that the company was built to enable vehicles to “seamlessly interact with the physical world.” He added that by joining Element, they can “accelerate adoption and deliver a broader suite of payment capabilities to more fleets.”
What Comes Next
Once the acquisition is complete, Car IQ will join Element Mobility as a subsidiary and continue developing advanced payment and data tools. The goal is to support a more connected, more automated approach to spending across fueling, maintenance, violations, and other services.
As fleets navigate increasing complexity, integrated vehicle payments could offer faster workflows, tighter control, and a more connected view of operations; advantages that matter as organizations plan for the next phase of fleet intelligence.
