Chevrolet Updates Silverado HD Trucks for 2016

The Chevrolet Silverado HD trucks will add new features for the 2016 model year, including integrated cruise control, powertrain grade braking, and diesel exhaust braking to enhance control, General Motors has announced.

The Chevrolet Silverado HD trucks will add new features for the 2016 model year, including integrated cruise control, powertrain grade braking, and diesel exhaust braking to enhance control, General Motors has announced.

For 2016, the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD will include Digital Steering Assist, a power steering feature on some double cab and crew cab models that make hauling and trailering easier with electronic controls that enhance road holding and stability on the highway, especially on crowned roads. The feature is not available on Work Truck or regular cab models.

The HD trucks will also add a new gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailering option with a spray-in bedliner that will be available by April 1. The trucks will feature a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray that accommodates a gooseneck ball hitch or fifth-wheel hitch mounting brackets, as well as a cargo bed-mounted trailer harness. Chevrolet dealers will also offer a new Gooseneck Completion Kit with a 2-5/16-inch ball hitch and two chain tie-downs.

Silverado HD's MyLink infotainment systems will now include a new HD radio with a 7-inch touchscreen, a faster processer, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The available 8-inch system features similar performance improvements and CarPlay capability. Android Auto capability is coming later in the model year.

The 2016 HD trucks will also conform to the SAE J2807 towing standards. Maximum trailering ratings when buyers pair the truck with the Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel and Allison 1000 6-speed transmission include 14,500 pounds for the 2500HD with conventional trailering; 18,000 pounds for the 2500HD with fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailering; 15,000 pounds for the 3500HD with single rear wheel and conventional trailering; 17,500 pounds for the 3500HD with single rear wheel and fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailering; 20,000 pounds for the 3500HD with dual rear wheels and conventional trailering; and 23,200 pounds for dual rear wheels and fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailering.

As with the 2015 model, Chevrolet will offer regular, double cab and crew cab models. The 2500HD and 3500HD regular cab models are matched with an 8-foot box, while 2500HD double cab and crew cab models are available with 6-foot-6-inch or 8-foot boxes. Silverado 3500HD double cab is offered exclusively with the 8-foot box, while 3500HD crew cabs are available with the 6-foot-6-inch and 8-foot boxes.

Trim levels include Work Truck (WT), LT, LTZ and High Country. The LTZ trim is offered on double cab and crew cab models, while the High Country is only offered on the crew cab.
