Calif. Invests $46M in Hydrogen Fueling Stations

The California Energy Commission has awarded $46.6 million in state grants to construct 28 new hydrogen fueling stations as part of a broader initiative to popularize the alternative fuel in the state.

The California Energy Commission has awarded $46.6 million in state grants to construct 28 new hydrogen fueling stations as part of a broader initiative to popularize the alternative fuel in the state.

Eight hydrogen refueling infrastructure firms received funding, including Air Liquide Industrial US, FirstElement Fuel, HyGen Industries, the Institute of Gas Technology, ITM Power, Linde, Hydrogen Technology and Energy Corp., and Ontario CNG Station.

The fueling infrastructure supports Gov. Jerry Brown's executive order that directs state government to boost commercialization of zero-emission vehicles. California hopes to support 1 million zero-emission vehicles by 2020.

The May 1 awards will add 28 stations in addition to the nine existing stations and the 17 stations under development.
