BP Recalls Contaminated Gasoline in Midwest
Drivers in Chicago, Milwaukee, and northwest Indiana areas could have potentially purchased this fuel from retail outlets in those areas.
British Petroleum (BP) is recalling unleaded regular gasoline that was shipped from its Whiting, Ind. fuel storage terminal between Aug. 13 and Aug. 17.
BP stated that a 50,000-barrel batch of gasoline had a higher level of polymeric residue, which can cause hard starting, stalling and other drivability issues. Drivers in Chicago, Milwaukee, and northwest Indiana areas could have potentially purchased this fuel from retail outlets in those areas.
The company stated that it has established a process for working with customers whose vehicles require repair as a result of driving a vehicle with the contaminated fuel.
The company has created a website in response to this contaminated fuel issue at www.bpresponse.com. The company also set up a customer hotline and email address for this issue, 1-800-333-3991 or bpconsum@bp.com.
