Alectra Utilities has added an International eMV all-electric double bucket truck to its fleet, as part of the company's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Powerline technicians will use the EV in day-to-day overhead line maintenance operations. The truck Alectra received is one of the first to be delivered in Ontario.
"The addition of our first fully electric bucket truck marks a significant step towards electrification," said Chris Hudson, SVP Network Operations, Alectra Utilities. "Integrating this cutting-edge vehicle into our fleet is part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and fostering a cleaner energy future."
Alectra Takes a Leap Towards Sustainability
In a forward-thinking pilot initiative, Alectra's Operations team is embarking on integrating an electric vehicle bucket truck into its fleet over the next nine months.
This truck will regularly serve Alectra's three largest service centers in Markham, Hamilton, and Brampton.
The primary goal of this program is to assess the practicality and potential benefits of deploying this vehicle in the future.
Notably, by introducing this EV bucket truck, Alectra aims to make an environmental impact equivalent to removing approximately two average passenger vehicles from the roads, based on the average annual Canadian vehicle emissions.
Alectra's dedication to sustainability initiatives extends beyond this electrified bucket truck. Their fleet expansion plan also includes three Ford E-Transits and four Plug-In Hybrid Ford Escapes into their field operations.
Alectra has also earned recognition as one of Corporate Knights' Best 50 Companies and is named a Top Employer in the Greater Toronto Area.
Additionally, Imagine Canada has honored Alectra as a "Caring Company" for their significant contributions to charitable community organizations.
