Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) introduced its new 2008 FE125 Class 3 low-cab forward medium-duty truck last June. MFTA markets a complete line of diesel-powered, medium-duty cabover trucks through approximately 190 dealer locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Bringing the FE Back
The FE125 is now equipped with the advanced Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) II system, a computerized engine control system that can detect problems with engine, fuel or performance earlier or pinpoint misfires within specific cylinders. The system reduces the number of parts replaced unnecessarily and reduces comebacks and warranty returns.
The FE125 provides fleets or vocational owners the maneuverability of a cabover, reliability, fuel economy, and high performance according to the manufacturers.
The FE125, with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 12,500 lbs. and OBD II is sold throughout the U.S.
“The FE125 allows an entry-level vehicle in this competitive GVWR class,” according to Joe Devlin, MFTA director of corporate communications. He adds that the new OBD II system is what separates the FE125 from other medium-duty Fusos.
The FE125 features the Mitsubishi Fuso exclusive 3-4-5 limited warranty package, which includes a limited 3-year/unlimited-mileage, bumper-to-bumper warranty, limited 4-year rust-through warranty and limited 5-year/175,000-mile powertrain warranty that also covers bolt-ons such as turbo-chargers, starter motors, and alternators.
New Features Offered
A significant change, the standard Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission is offered on the FE125 as well as on the Class 4 FE145. With an array of three all-new vehicle lengths — 227.2, 246.9, and 265.0 inches — the FE125 is also available in three wheelbases, 114.6, 134.3, and 152.4 inches. All have a straight-channel, 33.1-inchwide frame for easy body installation. For more convenience, there are three usable cab-to-rear axle options; 66, 105.7 and 123.8 inches.
Cruise control on FE125 and FE145 is standard along with automatic transmission. The cruise control is programmable by the dealer to customer specifications, allowing the owner to set speed limit. Keyless entry, a programmable power take- off (PTO), and on-off switchable exhaust brake are some of the key features FE125 offers.
The FE125 is powered by the Mitsubishi 4M50 with a DOHC 4-stroke cycle, water-cooled, turbocharged, intercooled diesel fuel engine producing 185 hp at 2,700 rpm and 391lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm.
Safety Features
The FE125 offers plenty of safety features, such as:
Brakes power-assisted with hydraulic dual-caliper disc types at all four wheels with ABS standard option.
A crush bar in each door.
Tilt/telescoping steering wheel adjustment.
Daytime running lights, high visibility halogens, “wet-arm” 3-speed wipers.
Other amenities include power windows and door locks, cloth fabric seats, noise-reducing high-mount air intake snorkel, a fully adjustable driver’s seat and adjustable driver’s arm rest and seat back to help improve driver comfort and reduce road fatigue. Seat backs on the assistant and passenger seats also adjust for angle and fold flat to provide a work surface for owner/operators. With a dash-mounted transmission shifter, spacious interior dimensions and a fully lined interior, the cab offers one of the most comfortable work environments in its class, according to MFTA.
Customizing Availability
Currently, more than 80,000 Mitsubishi Fuso standard, four-wheel drive and Crew Cab trucks are on the road in the U.S. and Canada, fulfilling the transportation needs of a wide variety of businesses and industries, including beverage, refrigerated and dry cargo delivery fleets, vehicle recovery, towing, pest control, plumbing, light construction, and landscaping.
