In a press conference in Detroit, Jim Farley, group vice president for marketing and sales at Ford, made a big announcement, stating that the automaker would be electrifying the F-Series. The automaker has previously announced it would offer a gasoline-electric hybrid F-150.

“We’re going to be electrifying the F-Series — battery electric and hybrid,” Farley said to attendees of the Deutsche Bank Global Automotive Conference.

This isn’t the first comment regarding a potential electric truck, with Bill Ford, chairman of the company, mentioning the possibility of electrifying a truck at some point in the future, stating, “When it comes to building the best trucks in the world, we never rest. Whether they're gas, diesel, hybrid — or when the time comes fully-electric — we will ensure they power the world in a sustainable way.”

Work Truck reached out for additional information on the electric F-Series: “On whether we’re working on a battery-electric F-150 and when it might arrive, the answer is yes. We are constantly looking at new ways to better serve our truck customers, from materials to features to propulsion systems," commented Emma Bergg, EV Communications for Ford.

The automaker would not comment on possible timing for the new truck or have any additional details at this time.

Ford celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017 and recently added a suite of new features to its fourth-generation 2019 Super Duty trucks. Last year the automaker announced that it was shifting its focus away from sedans and with a goal of around 90% of its portfolio being trucks, utilities, and commercial vehicles by 2020.
