Ram is officially returning to the small commercial van segment with the unveiling of the 2027 Ram ProMaster City at Work Truck Week 2026 in Indianapolis on March 11.

The ProMaster City nameplate left the U.S. market after the 2022 model year, and Ram executives say bringing it back fills a key gap for commercial customers, dealers, and upfitters.

“We’re here to right that wrong by bringing back the Ram ProMaster City,” said Matt Huber, senior vice president of Ram product. “When we discontinued the previous ProMaster City, it left a hole in the Ram Professional lineup and took a tool away from dealers, upfitters, and customers.”

Targeting an Underserved Commercial Segment

Ram is positioning the new ProMaster City as a purpose-built solution for small- and midsize-commercial customers who have had limited options as OEMs exited the segment.

According to the company, nearly 1 million small and midsize vans have been sold in the U.S. since 2009, with more than half still on the road today. Ram also estimates that the category represents a $4 billion revenue opportunity, driven largely by fleet and small-business demand.

“That left a lot of customers out in the cold,” said Dave Sowers, director of Ram Professional operations. “The work didn’t go away. Customers either kept their vans longer or made compromises.”

Designed for Commercial Work

Ram says the 2027 ProMaster City is designed to balance capability, maneuverability, and cost for vocational users and delivery-focused businesses.

Key capability targets include:

  • More than 2,000 pounds of payload

  • 2,000 pounds of towing

  • Ability to carry 4x8 sheets of construction material

  • 167 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the first row

The growth in vehicle size compared to previous versions was based on customer feedback, according to the automaker.

Powertrain, Platform, Technology & Production

Power comes from a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 166 hp and 221 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The ProMaster City rides on Stellantis’ global midsize commercial van architecture (referred to internally as the K0 platform) shared across multiple Stellantis brands worldwide.

Standard tech includes a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a digital rearview mirror across cargo and passenger models.

The company also referenced safety and driver-assist features, including backup camera capability, parking aids, and forward collision mitigation.

Ram said the van will be assembled in Turkey at a Stellantis joint venture facility, with the engine produced in North America.

Pricing Target and Production Timing

So, how much is this expected to cost, and when will the new Ram ProMaster City be available?

Ram is targeting a starting price under $40,000, with final pricing expected closer to launch. The van will be offered in Tradesman and SLT trims, with the brand expecting most volume to land in Tradesman.

Production is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with sales beginning in the first quarter of 2027 and availability expected across the U.S. and Canada.
