Terex Utilities has announced the next generation of its zero-emissions bucket truck, set to be showcased at NTEA Work Truck Week, March 4-7, 2025, in Indianapolis. With a focus on fleet electrification for the utility fleet industry, Terex Utilities has partnered with Mack Trucks to introduce a bucket truck with enhanced range and increased payload capacity.

The medium-duty truck will be featured at Mack’s booth (#3123) at the Indiana Convention Center.

Advanced Electric Chassis for Extended Range and Performance

Terex Utilities installed its Optima HR55 aerial device, powered by the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec, on the Mack MD7 Electric work truck chassis, creating a zero-emissions utility truck capable of traveling longer distances and hauling more cargo.

Preliminary testing shows that this all-electric bucket truck offers up to 1.5 times the range of other Class 6/7 medium-duty electric chassis bucket trucks, with double the payload capacity on the rear axle, according to a manufacturer release.

Additionally, the Terex aerial device, powered by the SmartPTO, operates independently from the Mack MD7 Electric chassis. This feature helps reduce range anxiety, allowing utility fleet crews to run the boom and outriggers throughout a full workday without draining the chassis battery.

“Our collaboration with Mack Trucks represents continued progress in zero-emissions utility vehicles,” said Tyler Schwingler, Terex Utilities product marketing manager. “By combining our industry-leading Optima HR55 aerial device with Mack’s innovative MD7 Electric chassis, we’re providing utility companies with a solution that doesn’t compromise on performance or capability while supporting their sustainability goals.”

Cutting-Edge Safety and Monitoring Technology

The all-electric medium-duty truck is also equipped with the advanced 3rd Eye digital platform, which integrates AI-driven camera systems to enhance safety and productivity. With up to six HD cameras displayed on a 7-inch in-cab monitor, the system provides a real-time, 360-degree view, reducing blind spots when reversing, changing lanes, or working in high-traffic areas.

“Best of all, the 3rd Eye system is wirelessly connected to the cloud, continuously capturing and storing critical operational data,” said Eric Monsen, vice president of sales and marketing for Environmental Solutions Group. “This gives fleet managers real-time visibility into driver performance, chassis and body activity, and equipment status—helping improve safety, reduce liability, and reinforce safe driving behaviors.”

Expanding the All-Electric Fleet for Utility Crews

Terex introduced the industry’s first all-electric bucket truck in 2022, with an Optima 55-foot aerial mounted on an International eMV. Today, dozens of Terex all-electric bucket trucks are in use by utility crews across North America. The new Mack all-electric unit provides another option for electric utility customers seeking a zero-emissions solution.

A limited number of these trucks will be available in 2025, with standard delivery times of 12-18 months.
