In this episode of Faces of Fleet, Work Truck’s Lauren Fletcher sits down with EarthCruiser founder and CEO Lance Gillies for a conversation that starts with overlanding and ends in a very fleet-minded place.
Gillies shares how a lifelong habit of chasing “what’s over the next hill” helped shape EarthCruiser’s approach to vehicle-based travel, and why the basics of staying out longer, including water, fuel, food, and shelter, became a design driver. That mindset eventually led him and his team toward a cab-over 4x4 platform, and later to CORE, a purpose-built truck born out of a simple reality: when the right option isn’t available, you either pivot or you build.
We sit down with Lance to discuss:
Getting into overlanding
Being chased by crocodiles!?!
Envisioning EarthCruiser
Going from Australia to Bend, Oregon
Adding CORE to the EarthCruiser equation
Giving back to the local community
Lessons learned from fleets & passion for solving problems
