PeopleNet announced at its annual user’s conference in San Antonio Tuesday that it would partner with ALK Technologies and GeoTrac Systems to build a suite of applications specifically for the energy transportation sector.
According to the company, the collaboration will help fleets operating in that sector increase efficiency, reduce fleet liabilities and mitigate environmental damage by improving safety of hauling crude oil and fracking fluids.
The collaboration will combine PeopleNet’s fleet mobility software with GeoTrac’s energy services technology and ALK’s navigation software.
User conference attendees saw demonstrations of PeopleNet’s Energy Services Portal, which includes reporting and analysis tools, conditional alerting, real-time energy-specific mapping and CoPilot Truck Energy turn-by-turn navigation to guide drivers directly to a well site.
PeopleNet said the new product is in response to the growing number of customers in the energy sector and the need for two-way messaging, GPS in remote areas (using cellular, satellite and WiFi communications), vehicle tracking and driver safety. PeopleNet already offers products for improving driver efficiency (Crude Workflow) and electronic logs especially for the energy sector.
