The Workhorse Group's W-15 plug-in hybrid pickup should provide 80 miles of all-electric range and an equivalent of 75 miles per gallon when operating on electric power, the company has announced.
The company plans to unveil the vehicle at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Long Beach, Calif., on May 2.
The W-15 will include a gasoline-powered range extender and be available in all-wheel drive. The powertrain should produce about 460 horsepower and reach 0-60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds.
Other features include collision-avoidance technologies such as automatic braking and a lane-departure warning, a composite body with carbon fiber, double cab configuration, standard bed length.
The W-15 is based on technology used to power Workhorse's E-Gen electric range-extended medium-duty delivery trucks. It will use a 7.2-kilowatt power export that allows tools to be plugged into the battery source while the truck is off.
The W-15 should retail for $52,500 when it goes in sale in 2018. Workhorse will build the vehicle at its Union City, Ind. plant, which can produce 60,000 chassis a year.
Workhorse still needs to gain regulatory approval and financing for production.
