Volvo XC90 SUV Gets Safety Award

Swedish manufacturers have long been at the forefront of car safety, and Volvo is making sure it stays that way by scooping the 'Safety' award for its new XC90 sport utility vehicle at the Institute of Vehicle Engineers Motor Show Design Awards. The award, presented at the British International Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham, England, recognized Volvo's overall attention to safety design and especially for advances in rollover protection. The XC90, making its UK debut at the show, features a boron steel roof structure and an advanced airbag control system that, according to Volvo, sustains protection levels during an extended rollover accident. “This award is a great acknowledgement of the quality and innovative design of the Volvo XC90, and proves this car takes a great step ahead of its rivals,” said Simon Munn, Volvo UK sales and marketing director. “In addition, it is a tremendous endorsement of our continuing commitment to designing and building advanced safety features into all our vehicles.”
