Automaker Volkswagen AG announced on Feb. 1 it plans to cut prices for its 2001 passenger vans in order to double its annual sales volume. The company said it will cut the price of its 2001 EuroVan line of vehicles, due to go on sale in April. The GLS model will sell for $26,200, down 16.3 percent from $31,300 for the 2000 model. The Multivan will sell for $27,700, down 15.5 percent from $32,800 in 2000. With the price adjustment, Volkswagen expects to double its annual sales volume of the EuroVan to nearly 5,000 units annually, according to company officials. Volkswagen said the newest EuroVan will also have new features, including a more powerful engine that will offer a 201 horsepower versus 140 hp in 2000.
