Toyota is rolling out a commercial version of the Tundra to go after contractors, landscapers, and government truck fleets, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Currently, Ford, General Motors, and the Dodge division of DaimlerChrysler combine for more than 90 percent of the commercial pickup market. Toyota and Nissan have recently made inroads with their compact trucks. J.D. MacArthur, senior manager for fleet operations for Gulf States Toyota, said that Toyota wants to get its truck customers to move up from small pickups to the Tundra, according to the San Antonio Express-News. One of the reasons Toyota picked San Antonio for its new Tundra pickup plant was so it could tout its Texas-built truck to loyal drivers of the top three domestic brands, the report said. The new commercial Tundra will be available as a regular or extended cab with a V-6 or V-8 engine and two-wheel or four-wheel drive. In addition, the model will have vinyl flooring, hand-cranked windows, and an 8-foot bed. Other options include a towing package with a 2,025-lb. pay-load, 7,100-lb. towing capacity, an engine oil cooler, and a transmission oil cooler.
