Toyota Invests $282 Million in Alabama Plant, Creating 350 New Jobs

The plant is responsible for supplying engines to seven Toyota vehicle plants in North America, including those powering the popular Tacoma and Tundra models.

Toyota Alabama is the company’s largest engine producer in North America, employing more than 2,000 dedicated team members who assembled more than 770,000 engines in 2023.

Toyota is scaling up its Huntsville, Alabama, plant production capabilities with a $282 million investment, creating over 350 new jobs and ensuring long-term stability. This reiterates the company's dedication to reinvesting profits in its U.S. operations, bringing the total investment in Toyota Alabama to over $1.7 billion.

The plant, already a significant engine powerhouse, is now expanding to include new lines for drivetrain products.

Notably, Toyota Alabama is the largest engine producer for North America, with a workforce of over 2,000 team members who assembled more than 770,000 engines in 2023. The plant is responsible for supplying engines to various Toyota vehicle plants in North America, including those powering the popular Tacoma and Tundra models.

“Thanks to our Alabama team members’ daily commitment to quality and continuous improvement, we know they can rise to the challenge of all-new production lines,” said Jason Puckett, Toyota Alabama president. “The new lines will further increase the plant’s flexibility and reaffirm Toyota’s commitment to our team and community.”

Marcus Calhoun, a team leader at Toyota Alabama, expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to introduce new products to the plant. 

“I’ve been a part of building high-quality Toyota engines for eight years, and I’m excited for the opportunity to bring new products to our plant,” Calhoun said. “Toyota was my first job in manufacturing, and now I lead my own team. I’m ready to help both current and future team members learn the skills they’ll need for this project.”

Governor Kay Ivey also lauded Toyota's substantial impact on Alabama's auto industry over the past two decades, citing the numerous expansions that have bolstered the Huntsville facility's production capabilities.

“Toyota has been a bedrock company within Alabama’s growing auto industry for over two decades, launching multiple expansions that have increased the Huntsville facility’s production capabilities and its superb workforce,” Governor Ivey said. “This new investment project will build on the great legacy of Toyota’s Alabama engine plant and create even more new opportunities for the area’s citizens.”
