The Toyota Camry sedan was the vehicle most often stolen in the U.S. in 2000, as auto thefts rose for the first time in a decade, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. The others in the top five were Honda Accord sedan, Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan, Honda Civic sedan, and Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee sport utility vehicles, according to the insurer-funded group. In the list for 1999, the Accord was first and the Camry was second. The two sedans also have led U.S. car sales the past two years. The Arlington, Va.-based nonprofit group bases its annual theft study on Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) data. Total car thefts in the U.S. rose 1.2 percent to about 1.17 million in 2000 from 1.15 million the previous year, according to NICB. Other vehicles in the group's top 10 were Chevrolet C/K pickup truck, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Caprice, Ford Taurus sedan and Ford's F-150 pickup.
