Tata Motors and its Tunisian partner ICAR S.A., the industrial subsidiary of Le Motor SA, has announced the industrial launch of Tata Motors light commercial vehicle assembly in Tunisia. Tata Motors will commence production of pickups and light commercial vehicles, with partners ICAR SA, in June 2015.
“The industrial launch of Tata Motors assembly plans in Tunisia is a major step in Tata Motors continued expansion in Africa and the global automotive industry. The Tunisian automotive industry holds a strategic place in Tata Motors global plans, with a well-developed competitive network of suppliers, along with a well-trained work force in latest automotive technologies, key factors in the success of Tata Motors operations here. Through our association with ICAR S.A., we plan to constantly keep in touch with the market here, to determine customers’ preferences, launch new products and upgrade our existing ones, offering unmatched benefits to our customers,” said RT Wasan, head – International Business, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit.
Tata Motors and ICAR SA will start with the production of Tata Xenon pickups and light commercial vehicles Ace and Super Ace. The Tata Xenon will be able to produce 140 hp and be equipped with a nine blades leaf spring suspension. Tata Motors will offer three variants of the pickup: the Single Cab 4X2 and Double Cab in the 4X2 and 4X4 configuration.
The Tata Super Ace and Tata Ace will open the door to a new small utility segment in Tunisia, with several application based vehicles for small businesses, according to the automaker.
The distribution of Tata Motors vehicles and after-sales service will be provided by Le Motor SA, and the product will be available throughout Tunisia starting from September 2015, according to Tata Motors.
