Republican House members in Harrisburg, Penn., agreed to give up state fleet cars, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The lawmakers are moving toward working with incoming governor-elect Tom Corbett, who campaigned to rein in lawmakers' perks. The lawmakers also agreed to pay toward their own health care benefits, and ease per diem abuses.

Corbett called for reducing the car fleet and establishing more accountability for per diems, the flat undocumented payments for lawmakers' overnight stays. The current per-diem rate for Harrisburg trips is $157.

Under the proposed new plan, lawmakers would be reimbursed for mileage when they drive personal vehicles on state business.

Details are still being worked out on how per-diem allowances will be handled. Under the plan, lawmakers would be required to sign an affidavit that they incurred overnight expenses. Receipts may be required for trips when the House is not in session.
