Southern Recipe's annual truck driver appreciation campaign has helped support St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) with a $5,000 donation, and created a fun competition to help spread awareness for the work the fund does. Six SCF-related truck drivers were selected for their lip-syncing abilities, and consumers were invited to sing along and submit their entries to Southern Recipe via the social media platform of their choice. Winners were entered for a chance to win $1,000 and six months of free pork rinds, while drivers who participated also received pork rinds plus a matching cash prize automatically for their talents and efforts.
Contest participant Ingrid Brown (@Ingrid_IB), Rollin' B LLC entrepreneur, truck driver, and St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund board member, said she absolutely loves taking advantage of any opportunity she can to support the charities and organizations she cares most about. Lip-syncing for Southern Recipe’s truck driver appreciation week campaign was one way she was able to give back.
"Because I’m both a truck driver and a melanoma cancer patient, I have direct experience with SCF. When I’m out of work with zero income, I have to figure out how to pay my truck bills, home bills, and insurance premiums, and keep my business alive. This is where SCF comes to the rescue. This incredible organization is not only able to fund these dire needs, but they also guide truck drivers by offering other resources that reach beyond funding. In fact, many owner/operators don’t have insurance. No one else does this within the industry. Without SCF, we’d have nowhere else to turn," she explained.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Southern Recipe again this year and support our road warriors,” said Shannon Currier, director of Philanthropy and Development at St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund. “Tik Tok has become relevant across all ages, genders, and professions. Truck drivers find it a source of entertainment as well as an outlet for self-expression. We think this is a great way to help everyone know just a little more about their daily struggles, plight, and passion for the profession, too.”
Brown said she loves the stability of truck driving and owning her own business.
"People might talk about autonomous trucks, but truck drivers will always be here. It’s lucrative and stable. Even through the pandemic, truck drivers were still out on the road because at the end of the day, America has to move – and America moves by truck," she said.
Beyond the stability of truck driving, Brown loves people. Truck driving allows her to see new faces and view the country. Her advice for those new to the trucking profession is no question is ever too small to ask.
"Reach out to others in the industry – you’ll be amazed at how truck drivers like to share their experience and stories. The industry has room for everyone! We love to see new truck drivers come in," she stated.
