From the days of horse-drawn wagons to today’s modern horsepower, the moving services of Smith Dray Line have been a pillar of excellence for 125 years. Today marks another milestone for South Carolina’s largest household goods mover, as Smith Dray Line is joining the Atlas Van Lines family, one of the nation’s leading movers. With five locations in the Carolinas, Greenville-based Smith Dray Line will continue serving this region and beyond with its focus on residential, commercial and international moves, as well as full-service storage services.

“Becoming an Atlas Van Lines interstate agency allows us to better meet the rising demand across the Carolinas as we continue to expand our footprint in the region,” said Sam Turrentine, CEO of Smith Dray Line. “Pairing our 125-year history and knowledge with Atlas’ expansive reach in the marketplace are just a few reasons this partnership will be a cornerstone for continued longevity and success in our business.”

With a longstanding reputation of offering top-tier household moving services throughout the eastern and southeastern U.S. regions, Smith Dray Line’s beginnings date back to the late 1800s. The company transported personal belongings, coal, cotton and other freight from the railroad depot in Greenville, S.C. to homes and businesses throughout the Upstate using horse-drawn wagons or “drays.” The family-owned moving and storage company now operates offices in the Greenville, Charleston, Columbia, Charlotte and Asheville markets. The new partnership will enable Smith Dray Line to open new locations in Carolina regional markets they were not able to enter previously.

“We look forward to supporting Smith Dray Line‘s efforts to build upon its legacy and to expand Atlas’ household moving and commercial relocation services to residents and companies in the Carolinas,” said Steve Hermann, vice president of agency development at Atlas Van Lines. “Atlas and Smith Dray Line share a strong commitment to excellence and quality. Whether it’s a multi-million dollar commercial relocation or a small, family household move, customers can have confidence knowing their valuables are in trusted hands.”

Consisting of nearly 500 interstate agents across the United States and Canada, the Atlas Van Lines agency network facilitates thousands of household moves worldwide each year.
