Saying Farewell to a Legend: Peterbilt's Model 389 Nears the End of an Era
Rush & Peterbilt Donate $1.5M to Truckers Against Trafficking, Wreaths Across America
The final Peterbilt Model 389 ever produced was auctioned to benefit Truckers Against Trafficking and Wreaths Across America during an event in February. During the Mid-America Trucking Show more recently, Rush Truck Centers and Peterbilt donated a combined $1.5 million to the two charities.

Peterbilt Motors Company and Rush Truck Centers announced a total of $1.5M in donations to Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) and Wreaths Across America (WAA). Representatives from both charities received the donations from Jason Skoog, Peterbilt general manager and Paccar vice president, and Rusty Rush, CEO of Rush Truck Centers, at the Mid-America Trucking Show.
The donation was equally split between TAT and WAA, each receiving a total of $750,000.
Rush Truck Centers Donates $625,000 to Each Charity
Rush Truck Center’s contribution of $625,000 for each charity resulted from a closely held auction for the last-ever-produced Model 389, which took place at the Peterbilt Dealer Meeting in February 2023. Rush won the auction with a $1.5M bid and will use the truck to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The final Model 389 rolled off the assembly line on Dec. 22, 2023.
“We all can take part in protecting the more vulnerable members of our society, and Truckers Against Trafficking’s efforts to aid law enforcement in the recovery of victims of human trafficking is truly life-saving work,” said Rush, chairman, CEO, and president of Rush Enterprises. “Further, the mission of Wreaths Across America, to honor those who serve, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, while inspiring the next generation to value our freedoms, is important to me personally as well as to countless Rush Enterprises employees who have served in the armed forces or who come from military families.”
Peterbilt Donates $150,000 to Each Charity
Peterbilt will split equally the proceeds from the sale of the truck, donating $125,000 to each charity.
“It is very fitting that the proceeds from the last Model 389 will support these two worthy organizations,” said Jason Skoog, Peterbilt general manager and Paccar vice president. “We thoughtfully selected TAT and WAA as the recipients of this donation to help fund their efforts in supporting our trucking community, specifically combatting human trafficking and honoring our fallen soldiers. We are proud to stand with them and look forward to seeing all the great work they will accomplish in the years ahead.”
Rush Fundraising for the Wounded Warrier Project
The last Model 389 will be the centerpiece of a Rush Truck Centers sweepstakes running throughout 2024 to raise additional funds for a third charity, the Wounded Warrior Project.
This one-of-a-kind Peterbilt Model 389X has been customized to match the paint scheme of the 1965 Peterbilt Model 358 proudly displayed at Rush Truck Centers’ headquarters which commemorates the year the company was founded.
“We’re grateful to Rush Enterprises, the Peterbilt community and generous Americans for supporting Wounded Warrior Project through this sweepstakes,” said Wally Edwards, WWP director of corporate partnerships. “This support helps Wounded Warrior Project provide free, life-changing services and programs to warriors and their families in mental health, career counseling, long-term rehabilitative care and policy advocacy. Together, we can transform the way America’s injured veterans are empowered, employed, and engaged in our communities.”
No donation is required to enter the sweepstakes or win. Full details and complete rules can be found at www.winthelast389.com.
