The 2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition, which should be available in late summer of this year, offers sporty appearance upgrades with key off-road enhancements.
Frontier Sport Edition follows the success of the Dark Armor package, giving customers a punch of color and the off-road features they want most, including all-terrain tires, an aluminum skid plate, fog lamps, and front accent lighting.
"Truck customers already love the capability of Frontier," said Brent Hagan, a senior manager of Product Planning at Nissan North America. "This new package gives them a fresh, athletic look and hardware to meet the needs of their active lifestyle."
More Off-Road Options
The Frontier lineup is carefully structured to appeal to a variety of drivers, with two body styles, four grades, and two bed lengths available. And every Frontier comes standard with Nissan's 3.8-liter V6, which has been tested to the extremes for durability.
Based on Frontier SV, Nissan said the Frontier Sport Edition is placed in the middle of the pack and provides a unique identity and tremendous value to those seeking additional off-road prowess.
"We are seeing demand for more off-road options at more affordable price points," Hagan said. "The Sport Edition provides a true 'Goldilocks' option for value-oriented customers who like getting off the beaten path. It gives people an easier access point to off-road equipment without needing to step up to the super-capable PRO-4X model."
Beyond the hardware upgrades, Frontier Sport Edition stands out with unique "Sport" graphics, 17-inch off-road-style wheels, and a two-tone interior with yellow accents, as well as black outside mirrors, lower fascia, and grille.
"The design changes set Frontier Sport Edition apart while maintaining a sporty, no-nonsense look," Hagan said.
Starting Point for Off-Road Upgrades

The Sport Edition package includes front accent lighting atop the grille plus LED fog lights for safer travel when visibility is limited on the trail.
Nissan
The Frontier fanbase has a strong appetite for customization, Nissan said. The Frontier Lift Kit was the most-sold NISMO accessory in fiscal year 2025, followed by NISMO Axis Frontier wheels.
"Frontier alone accounted for over 25% of Nissan Motorsports accessory sales last fiscal year," said Matthew Cole, manager of Motorsports at Nissan North America. "We expect that to grow even further with the arrival of Frontier Sport Edition."
Frontier Sport Edition is trail-ready off the showroom floor. But for those seeking even more capability and personalization, it's prime for customization through NISMO Off Road's growing line of Frontier accessories.
"The growing range of NISMO Off Road accessories makes modifying Frontier easier than ever," said Cole. "Whether it's a lift kit, beadlock wheels or high-performance suspension, there are limitless opportunities to make Frontier your own while maintaining your Nissan limited warranty."
Powerful Naturally Aspirated V6
As many midsize trucks shift to turbocharged four-cylinder engines, Frontier has the most powerful naturally aspirated V6 in its class, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Frontier Sport Edition is capable of towing up to 7,000 pounds when properly equipped.
"Truck customers want a reliable, powerful engine that can stand the test of time," Hagan said. "Frontier's V6 is a proven powertrain that is well-equipped for a variety of conditions, from off-roading to hauling heavy loads."
Engineered with Durability in Mind
Engineered with long-term durability in mind, Frontier's body-on-frame construction provides the strength and resilience truck buyers expect. High-strength steel in the frame helps withstand rough terrain and repeated use, while carefully tested suspension components are designed to perform consistently in demanding conditions.
Nissan said that is one reason why 92% of Frontier trucks sold in the last 10 years are still on the road.
"Extensive real-world and lab testing ensures Frontier can handle everything from daily driving to rugged off-road adventures without compromise," Hagan said. “Frontier Sport Edition is built to keep delivering performance and reliability for years to come, no matter where the road or trail leads."
Available This Summer
The 2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition is expected to arrive at dealers late this summer. Pricing will be announced early this summer.
