On Dec. 9, Maui Electric Co. and Phoenix Motorcars, an electric vehicle manufacturer, signed an accord to test the durability of new battery-powered pickup trucks, according to CNN Money.
Maui Electric, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Co. Inc. will test 20 to 30 vehicles that use a "nano titanite" battery system on the island of Maui in March.
Testing for the battery-powered vehicles will last for six months. In addition to testing the pickup trucks interaction with the island's electricity grid when they are recharging, other devices used to connect the vehicles to an electrical source will be tested.
