Motiv Power Systems has begun offering a battery-electric powertrain for the Ford F-59 commercial stripped chassis, the company announced at the Work Truck Show.
AmeriPride Services, a linen and uniform delivery fleet, has selected this F-59 option from Motiv for six walk-in vans to be used in Fresno, Calif.
When electrified by Motiv's powertrain, the F-59 provides a driving range of up to 100 miles, a GVWR of 22,000 pounds, and a three-year/36,000 mile warranty for the powertrain and the chassis, according to Motiv. Zero-emission trucks and buses equipped with the powertrain have shown a reduction of total operating costs by up to 87 percent compared to diesel trucks, the company added.
The electric powertrain has also been applied to the Ford E-450 and the heavy-duty Crane Carrier COE2 chassis. The F-59 chassis is frequently used in the assembly of walk-in vans and step vans.
The powertrain includes the Motiv electric Powertrain Control System (ePCS), batteries, motor, charger, heating, air conditioning, and other components. It is installed via ship-thru and requires minimal modification to the body and final vehicle design, according to Motiv. It includes universal charging compatibility and secure remote telematics and diagnostics.
