Monterey County Takes Car Privileges Away from Employees
Monterey County (Calif.) has taken away cars and reimbursement for travel from its employees after one county official expressed his displeasure in one employee's use of a county-owned vehicle.
After the controversy surrounding one of its employees due to his county-owned Ford Crown Victoria in November, Monterey County (Calif.) has taken away cars and reimbursement for travel from its executive management, reports thecalifornian.com.
Previously, executive managers were automatically eligible for a county car and were reimbursed for some mileage. However, under the new rules, only those who job requires the use of a vehicle will be allowed to operate the county-owned automobiles.
Back in November, Supervisor Lou Calcagno was reprimanded officials due to Emergency Services Manager Tom Lynch's use of his county-owned vehicle.
Lynch, who was issued the vehicle because of his commute from San Luis Obispo County, often used the car to carpool with other county employees.
The policy will not take effect for elected county officials until after their terms expire.
