Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) in Virginia, where all Mack Trucks medium-duty vehicles are assembled, is now certified and participating in Appalachian Power Company’s 100% Renewable Wind-Water-Sunlight (WWS) Service.
This means that RVO purchases 100% of its renewable energy with zero CO2 emissions from Appalachian Power, meeting the needs of Mack’s and RVO’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Appalachian Power's WWS Initiative
Appalachian Power's WWS initiative empowers customers with the opportunity to continuously harness renewable energy, relying entirely on the output from the company's renewable power generators.
Through a combination of wind, hydroelectric, and solar sources, customers' energy demands are satisfied using renewable resources both day and night. With 338 megawatts of renewable capacity allocated to Virginia customers via the WWS program, enough energy is generated to power 75,000 homes.
Catering to the Needs of Trucking Applications
To establish the production of the Mack MD Series, Mack invested $13 million, and this series commenced manufacturing in September 2020. The Mack MD Electric variant, unveiled in March 2023, is slated for production at the facility's close later this year.
The Mack MD6, categorized as a Class 6 model, boasts a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 25,995 pounds, while the MD7, classified as a Class 7 model, holds a GVWR of 33,000 pounds. Both models are exempt from the 12% Federal Excise Tax (FET).
Catering to the needs of trucking applications encompassing dry van/refrigerated, stake/flatbed, dump, and tank truck vocations, these diesel-powered MD models fulfill various industry requirements.
The Mack MD Electric also comes in Class 6 and Class 7 versions, designed to address the needs of trucking applications requiring dry van/refrigerated, stake/flatbed, and dump vocations.
