Mack Trucks recently announced Surgenor Truck Group locations in Kingston and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada are now both Mack Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealers, while Coastal Waste & Recycling and the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts ordered Mack LR Electric refuse vehicles.
“Congratulations to Surgenor for investing in electrification and achieving EV-Certified status at both of these locations,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “Mack customers in Kingston and Ottawa can expect the same level of comprehensive support for EVs that they do for all Mack products. We are proud that so many of our dealers are working with us to achieve EV certification so they are ready to meet the needs of transportation as it evolves toward the future.”
Mack dealers choosing to become EV-certified must meet safety, infrastructure, charging, training, and tooling requirements. The company said each dealer rooftop that is EV-certified also must make infrastructure changes, but Mack executives met regularly with Surgenor leadership to ensure the appropriate transition was made.
Surgenor Truck Group located in Kingston has 10 technicians, two of whom are master techs and two of whom are certified EV technicians. Surgenor’s Ottawa site has 16 technicians, with five being master technicians and two being certified EV technicians.
“Surgenor is ready and pleased to be part of the evolution of transportation toward electrification,” said Mike Gallant, GM of Surgenor Kingston. “Many of our customers have made inquiries into electric vehicles and the LR Electric in particular, and we are excited to be leading this movement along with Mack Trucks.”
LR Electric Orders Are In
Meanwhile, executives from the city of Cambridge ordered two Mack LR Electric models to help them move toward the city’s goal of having a fully electric fleet, according to Mack's news release.
The Mack LR Electric vehicles will be the first Class 8 electric trucks in the Cambridge refuse collection fleet.
“The City of Cambridge chose Mack to help it achieve its sustainability goals, and we couldn’t be prouder to help them with their achievements through the deployment of the Mack LR Electric,” said Randall. “City executives did their research to ensure that they ordered an electric refuse vehicle that met their needs as well as their delivery target, and Mack is looking forward to working with them as they begin their journey to electrification.”
The Mack LR Electric vehicles will operate in a residential area of the city and will be equipped with rear-loader bodies. Cambridge, population of about 117,000, currently has 18 refuse vehicles in its fleet, which services 6.3 square miles of a populated area.
Coastal Waste & Recycling ordered a Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle, the first electric vehicle in its fleet.
The Mack LR Electric model will operate in Delray, Boca Raton, and Pompano Beach, Florida, according to Mack.
“It’s great to see that Mack’s longtime customer, Coastal Waste & Recycling, ordered a Mack LR Electric vehicle as its first electric truck,” said Randall. “The Mack LR Electric offers a quiet, zero-emissions collection vehicle that helps promote less fossil fuel dependence. We look forward to working with Coastal as they electrify their fleet.”
