Lightning Systems Accredited Under BP's Low Carbon Program

The impact that activities accredited by the ALC program have had on emission reductions is quite notable. BP estimates that 53 million tons of CO2 equivalent have been saved or offset through activities delivered by BP, and 4.7 million tons through activities delivered by BP partners since the program began in 2017.

Lightning Systems, designer and manufacturer of all-electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicle powertrains, announced its accreditation under BP’s Advancing Low Carbon (ALC) program. The ALC program was created by BP to encourage the company and its partners to identify lower carbon opportunities.

Activities within the program include everything from carbon products to global research initiatives to partnerships with start-ups developing innovative new technologies. Since its launch in 2017 the program has grown to more thsn 50 accredited activities.

BP became an investor in Lightning Systems in 2014. To be considered for the BP program, Lightning had to meet the program’s rigorous criteria and requirements. Activities within the program undergo a stringent review of their application materials by the ALC team of experts, review by an external advisory panel, and assurance by a third party, Deloitte LLP.

This accreditation recognizes Lightning’s commitment to deliver better carbon outcomes, through driving efficiency through their commercial vehicle powertrains. The medium and heavy duty trucks, buses, and vans produced powered by Lightning Systems are effective in offsetting carbon emissions because they are fully battery-electric, and produce zero tailpipe emissions. Lightning Systems continues to work towards being an industry frontrunner by furthering research and technology development for zero emission commercial vehicles.

“We are thrilled to be part of the ALC Program and BP’s commitment to deliver better carbon outcomes,” said Lightning Systems CEO, Tim Reeser. “This accreditation recognizes the talent, skill, and diligence of the Lightning Team. They work day in and day out to ensure that we have the best processes, plans and procedures to create powertrains for a large variety of commercial vehicles that not only are changing the world—but that customers love to drive.”

The impact that activities accredited by the ALC program have had on emission reductions is quite notable. BP estimates that 53 million tons of CO2 equivalent have been saved or offset through activities delivered by BP, and 4.7 million tons through activities delivered by BP partners since the programme began in 2017. Lightning Systems is honored to be part of this low carbon effort and to continue to work to globally reduce carbon emissions.

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
