The state of Kentucky recently purchased 300 GPS devices for a pilot project in an attempt to reveal if their state-owned, take-home vehicles are being used for personal travel, WHAS 11 News (Louisville, Ky.) reports. Taxpayers’ dollars are paying for thousands of state government vehicles, the majority of them gas-guzzlers, the report says. Across Kentucky there are nearly 11, 000 passenger vehicles with state stickers and license plates. The state reportedly has no idea if some of those state cars, take home cars, are being abused. WHAS 11 News conducted a review which found the actual number of take - home vehicles is much higher than the 924 reported by state agencies last year. But of those 924, 760 of them are Crown Victorias, SUVs, or trucks. The state plans to buy smaller vehicles like Jeep Compass' to replace Expeditions and Impalas to replace Crown Victorias.
