Isuzu Motors Ltd. on March 28 unveiled a new sport utility vehicle borrowed from corporate owner General Motors Corp., part of the Japanese automaker's strategy to cut losses and improve its weak balance sheet. The Isuzu Ascender, scheduled to reach U.S. dealers late this year is a version of GM's stretched midsize SUVs built in Ohio, according to Reuters. Rick Balsiger, vice president of SUVs and product planning for Isuzu's U.S. operations, said Isuzu only expects to get a few hundred Ascenders from GM this year, but anticipates a boost in sales from tweaks to its current lineup. Once Ascender production ramps up, Balsiger said Isuzu hopes to sell about 16,000 a year, according to a Reuters report.
