General Motors Corp. plans to reduce its mid-size car offerings -- once the heart of its lineup -- by one third to save money and focus its marketing efforts, according to the Detroit News. GM executives told analysts Aug. 8 that the company will have 10 mid-size car models by 2006, down from 15 cars across its Chevrolet, Saturn, Oldsmobile, Buick and Pontiac brands. GM spokesman Jan-Willem Vester said the reduction will be accomplished by eliminating several models even as GM introduces some new mid-size cars.
