The joint announcement may be a nod to the Spark's origins as the Daewoo Matiz. GM took over Daewoo in 2002 and initially offered the vehicle as the Chevrolet Matiz. In 2009, GM offered began selling it as teh Beat in India. Chevrolet began producing the Spark EV in 2013, a battery-electric vehicle with an EPA-rated 82-mile range.
GM now sells the Spark in 71 global markets with South Korea being the leading buyer followed by the U.S. and Mexico. Commercial fleets added 237 Spark cars in 2013, while rental fleets added 5,898.
