General Motors revealed its all-new 2015 model-year versions of its Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs. The 2015 Tahoe and Suburban, revealed in New York, feature GM’s new EcoTec3 engines, new safety systems, and new designs inside and out.

Under the hood, the Tahoe and Suburban each feature a standard EcoTec3 5.3L V-8. GM noted technologies such as improved engine mounts, electronic throttle control, adaptive exhaust systems, and improved aerodynamics all help improve each vehicle’s fuel economy as well. The engine is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission that features TapShift control, Tow/Haul mode and Auto Grade Braking. GM hasn’t yet announced fuel economy figures for these vehicles. The engine can produce 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque.

New safety systems on each vehicle include radar, forward collision alert, front park assist, lane departure warning, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. Chevrolet’s Safety Alert Seat is also available (it vibrates to alert the driver of a potential crash). Each vehicle also offers GM’s front-center airbag, on bucket seat models. GM also said the new full-size SUVs have more security features to prevent theft, such as available window break in or glass-break, vertical-movement and interior movement sensors. Some of these features shut down control systems, making it difficult to start or move the vehicle.

Each vehicle features fold-flat second- and third-row seats, and GM offers an available power-folding feature. Next, each vehicle features two inches more legroom for second-row passengers, plus easier entry and exit, according to GM. The new 2015 Tahoe will also be available in a law-enforcement version as well, according to GM.

Technology features on both vehicles for 2015 include an available eight-inch color touchscreen radio with MyLink connectivity, up to six USB ports and six power outlets, including a 110-volt three-prong outlet, and an available rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens (in the Suburban only) and Blu-ray DVD player.

Design-wise, GM added new inlaid doors that fit into the body side openings (instead of over the top of the body), which helps improve aerodynamics. Next, GM added a lightweight aluminum hood and lift gate to reduce vehicle mass. Up front, the vehicle has projector beam headlamps next to the Chevrolet-signature dual-port grille (chrome on all models). Also, high-intensity discharge headlamps and LED daytime running lamps are included on the LTZ model.

Inside the vehicle, a new instrument panel houses the eight-inch touchscreen and a secured storage bin is located behind the screen. The compartmentalized center console is large enough to store a laptop or iPad, according to GM.

To enhance the driving experience, GM added a stronger frame and a wider rear track; a new electric variable-assist power steering system designed to enhance fuel economy and tailor steering assistance to the vehicle’s speed; a new four-wheel-disc brake system with Duralife brake rotors along with brake pedal revisions that improve pedal feel; and eighteen inch standard wheels. Twenty and twenty-two-inch wheels are available as well.

The new Tahoe and Suburban will be built at GM’s Arlington, Texas assembly plant, GM stated. Both vehicles are scheduled to arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of 2014, according to the automaker.
