General Motors released this week its 10th annual Sustainability Report, which outlines GM’s stance on issues surrounding environmental stewardship, including its vision of a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.

The report points to GM’s new Ultium battery technology, which debuted in March. GM states that “all Ultium platform EVs remain on schedule.”

GM says it is also on track to allocate more than $20 billion of capital and engineering resources to its electric and autonomous vehicle programs between 2020 and 2025. GM is also continuing site preparation at GM and LG Chem’s joint venture cell manufacturing plant, Ultium Cells LLC, in Lordstown, Ohio.

The Ultium battery will be used on upcoming products such as the Cadillac LYRIQ, which will go into production in 2022, the GMC Hummer EV, slated for production in late 2021, and the Cruise Origin, an electric, “self-driving,” and shared vehicle.

The report also contains information on a previously unannounced all-electric pickup — the Chevrolet BET Truck. The truck will be the brand's first electric full-size pickup, offering over 400 miles of range on a single charge, the report says, though no further details were given.

The report also affirms GM’s accelerated sustainability commitments to source 100% of electricity from renewable sources in the U.S. by 2030 and globally by 2040, a decade earlier than previously announced, and to continue recycling 100% of end-of-life EV batteries.

On the autonomous technology front, the report mentions an enhanced version of Super Cruise that will be introduced on the 2021 Cadillac CT5, CT4, and Escalade.

“The past several months have been difficult and our world has changed. As we move through the world in a new way, GM is as determined as ever to create solutions that lead to a better future for all,” said CEO Barra. “GM remains focused on delivering on our vision of a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion, while becoming the most inclusive company in the world.”

The report also outlined health and safety measures taken as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the establishment of an Inclusion Advisory Board to support organizations that promote inclusion and racial justice.

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect.
