GM: Fuel Cell Vehicles for Fleets by 2010

Hydrogen-powered fuel cell cars will be deployed for fleet applications by 2010 and available to the public by 2015, a GM representative told the Canadian Press.

Hydrogen-powered fuel cell cars should be available to the public by 2015, a General Motors (GM) representative recently announced, Fuel Cell Today reports. Todd Goldstein, an engineer at GM's fuel cell center in California, says that although many technological hurdles had been overcome, several issues still remained to be resolved before fuel cell cars are ready for the showroom. Technical issues with GM's latest fuel cell prototype that require ironing out include whining noises from the engine, and a lurching movement as the car sets off. According to Fuel Cell Today, durability and reliability are also important factors to get right, Goldstein added, with the range of the vehicles particularly important.
