Ford Unveils Mobile Office System in Trucks

Work trucks can now function more like an office on wheels with Ford’s in-truck computer system. The mobile office runs on Windows XP Professional with full Microsoft Office capabilities, GPS navigation, Internet access, printing, order submission and payment processing capabilities. The system is in development for inclusion as a dealer-installed accessory through the Genuine Ford Accessories program in 2006. The Stargate Mobile computer is rugged yet lightweight and features a touch-screen slate model mounted on the transmission tunnel. It is powered by the truck’s battery and can be connected to optional equipment, such as a GPS antenna, printer, credit card scanner or digital camera. In addition, the driver can remove the touch-screen computer and take it with him as if it were an ordinary laptop.
