As part of Eversource’s ongoing commitment to support workforce development opportunities in New Hampshire, the energy company is donating a second retired bucket truck to the Electrical Lineworker Certificate Program at Manchester Community College (MCC). The vehicle will be used in training students to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and to safely complete electric overhead construction.
When Eversource initially launched the program last year, the company contributed $58,000 to fund scholarships, uniform and gear allowances for students, curriculum development, and teachers. Additionally, Eversource donated a retired bucket truck and digger truck to the college, which are already being used to train students at the company’s Legends Drive facility in Hooksett.
Now in its second year, the Electrical Lineworker Certificate Program offers students hands-on, in-classroom learning at Manchester Community College and laboratory courses at local Eversource and IBEW training facilities. Students complete extensive course work, including electrical theory, basic math, communications, CPR, and safety. Additionally, students learn how to use equipment and tools to safely complete electric overhead and underground construction. During curriculum breaks, students complete a paid internship with Eversource or an IBEW contractor, preparing for employment in a variety of electrical fields, with an emphasis on electrical lineworker responsibilities and tasks.
