USTelematics will release a device that allows users to “listen” to text messages from a cell phone, reports Information Week. Vivee, or Voice Interactive Voice Enhanced Email, connects laptops, car computers, smartphones and other Internet devices through Verizon’s high-speed networks. An animated avatar will alert users of an incoming text and translate the message verbally. In addition to preventing collisions, the device could also benefit blind and visually impaired people, according to Information Week. USTelematics said it plans to release software for the Apple iPhone by the end of the summer. Insurance surveys have found that one in five drivers text while driving, while one in three younger drivers between the ages 18 and 34 text while driving.
