DaimlerChrysler's plan to switch its full-sized sedans to rear wheel drive could get a cool reception in the northern United States, according to industry analysts. Chrysler group CEO Dieter Zetsche in April said the replacements for the Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde and Chrysler 300M will have rear drive. But rear drive has poorer traction on snow and ice, which could hurt fleet and retail sales, the analysts say. Other industry analysts and dealers maintain, however, that 2002 model year Dodge and Chrysler sedans will gain distinction in a crowdeded segment thanks to their rear drive. The front drive Intrepid, Concorde, 300M and LHS sedans accounted for just under 10 percent of Chrysler's vehicle sales last year. Sales today are driven by $1,500 rebates, according to analysts.
