Cummins Inc. announced its 2013 engine lineup, ideal for vocational applications with demanding workloads and tough-duty cycles.

ISL9

Cummins 2013 on-highway diesel engines, including the ISX12 and ISL9, will offer customers up to two percent better fuel economy compared with the 2012 model year engines. Making use of proven technology in the critical subsystem components including the XPI fuel system, VGT Turbocharger, Cummins Aftertreatment System with Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology driven by a single Engine Control Module (ECM) allows improvements to combustion efficiency, performance and reliability with no major hardware changes. In addition, both diesel engines are certified to the 2013 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations meeting the greenhouse gas (GHG) and fuel efficiency rules that take effect in 2014.

"Cummins remains focused on delivering engines with better fuel economy, reliability and durability with lower operating costs. Cummins and Cummins Westport offer customers a range of horsepower and torque ratings with both clean diesel and natural gas engines to meet the needs of our vocational customers," said Jeff Jones, Cummins Vice President -North American Engine Business and Market Communications.

The Cummins ISX12, with ratings from 310 hp to 425 hp, has proven itself in applications from LTL and daycab trucks to mixers, dump trucks and refuse haulers. With over 800 lb.-ft. of clutch engagement torque, SmartTorque ratings that deliver an additional 200 lb.-ft. of torque in the top two gears, vocational ratings that provide additional torque in the lower gears and options including front- and rear-mounted power take-off (FEPTO and REPTO), the ISX12 is ideal in operations calling for a compact heavy-duty engine.

Including heavy-duty features such as replaceable wet liners, roller followers, by-pass oil filtration and targeted piston cooling, the 2013 ISL9 delivers the dependability and reliability required in tough work environments. Cummins ISL9 ratings from 260 hp to 380 hp combined with the highest power density of any engine in its class ensures that customers have the power they need to get the job done.

Cummins Westport natural gas engines, the ISL G and ISX12 G, utilize the same base engine and key components as their diesel counterparts. They also feature Cummins Westport's proprietary spark-ignited combustion technology with Stoichiometric cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (SEGR) and a maintenance-free Three-Way Catalyst. The ISL G is certified to the 2013 EPA standards and is available with ratings from 250 hp to 320 hp. The ISL G shares a full-skirted block with Cummins ISL9 for greater reliability and superior durability.

Cummins Westport's ISX12 G is based on Cummins ISX12 diesel and will offer ratings from 320 hp to 400 hp, and up to 1,450 lb.-ft. torque. Options such as engine braking as well as automatic and manual transmission offerings make the ISX12 G an ideal heavy-duty natural gas engine. The ISX12 G will be EPA 2013 certified when available in limited production in April 2013. Both the ISX12 G and the ISL G operate on compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas or biomethane, making them the natural choice for vocational natural gas applications.
