Chrysler Raises Prices to Offset Rebates
DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is hiking sticker prices on new models for a third time since December to offset profit-eating incentives, according to a Detroit News story by Susan Carney. The latest price increases average $115 to $120 -- up 0.5 percent from previous prices set in March -- on most 2002 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep cars and trucks. Since December, Chrysler has raised prices 1.6 percent. Chrysler spokesman Marc Henretta said GM and Ford Motor Co. have also raised 2002 sticker prices three times. “GM is pretty much driving the incentive and pricing game in the United States," Henretta told the Detroit News May 8. "We're just following along."
