All-Electric Sports Utility Truck Boasts 10-Minute Charge Time

Powered by the revolutionary Altairnano NanoSafe battery pack, Phoenix Motorcars' zero-emission, all-electric Sport Utility Truck (SUT) can cruise on the freeway at up to 95 mph while carrying five passengers and a full payload of 1,000 lbs. The SUT has a low-cost maintenance schedule and will be introduced to fleet managers in early 2007. The Ontario, Calif.-based company plans to produce at least 500 SUTs in 2007, focusing on fleet sales to companies, organizations and agencies in California needing economical, energy-efficient, zero-emission, mid-sized sports utility trucks (SUT) and SUVs that meet CARB requirements. Deliveries will begin in late 2007. The SUT can be recharged in less than 10 minutes with an off-board charging unit or trickle-charged overnight when plugged into a 220V power source. The estimated cost to recharge the battery pack is a small fraction of equivalent gasoline costs. Phoenix is currently working on an expanded battery pack that will allow a 250 mile range, still permitting a 10 minute charge and available in late 2007. The current battery pack has a life of 250,000 miles or over 12 years. Today, the Phoenix SUT is the only viable all-electric vehicle that meets State of California CARB specifications.
