Toyota's 2019 Avalon arrives a year after a generational refresh with more power, an improved Entune infotainment system, and upgrades to its suspension, Toyota has announced.
The new Avalon is available in two powertrains, including 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline and hybrid models. The V-6 makes adds 33 horsepower (to 310 hp) and 19 pound-feet of torque (to 267 lb.-ft.). It delivers power via an eight-speed automatic transmission to its front wheels. The set-up should deliver 31 miles per gallon on the highway, 22 mpg in the city, and 25 mpg combined.
The hybrid model pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a hybrid system and technologies such as variable valve timing, direct injection, a higher compression ratio, and cooled exhaust gas recirculation system.
Toyota is adding the sporty XSE trim to the existing Touring, XLE, and Limited for the gasoline model. The gasoline-electric hybrid is available in XLE, Limited, and XSE.
The Avalon is longer, wider, and lower.
An overhaul of the infotainment system brings Entune 3.0 Audio Plus, which includes connected navigation and new third-party applications, including Apple CarPlay across the lineup. Content displays on a 9-inch touchscreen.
Connected services include Safety Connect and Service Connect with a three-year trial. Remote Connect comes with a six-month trial. Wi-Fi Connect is powered by Verizon and includes up to 2 gigabytes in six months.
The vehicle goes in sale in May.
