More than 600 fleets currently use biodiesel, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. This number promises to grow based on several recent announcements. On May 16, Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. signed into law a mandate for half of the state's diesel fleet to use biodiesel. Two days later, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom issued an Executive Directive to increase the use of biodiesel in the municipal fleet, making San Francisco the largest U.S. city to date to commit to biodiesel use.
