Mark Hope is the president of EAVX, the innovation hub for J.B Pointdexter & Co. with its manufacturing sister business units. Hope has spent nearly 30 years involved in automotive and commercial vehicle development. He joined JPBCO in 2013, serving as vice president of engineering at Morgan Olson.
At Morgan Olson, he established their research and development group and led their electric-powered, walk-in body initiatives.
His passion for engineering and innovation has been instrumental in driving EAVX toward becoming a trailblazer in the commercial work truck and accessory industry.
"My journey in the automotive industry began with a passion for engineering and innovation. I have spent years in manufacturing, alternative fuels, and emissions control, witnessing the transformative impact of technology in this sector,” Hope said.
He continued, noting the automotive industry dynamics, which constantly challenges its professionals to adapt and innovate.
“I'm particularly excited by the evolving landscape of electric vehicles and autonomous driving technology, which are set to redefine our relationship with transportation. This ongoing evolution keeps me motivated and engaged in my work every day," he added.
Hopes background in engineering impacts his approach to problem-solving, making it far more systematic and ensuring a keen eye for detail, both of which are vital skills in his role as president of EAVX.
“Engineers think in terms of structures and systems, which is invaluable when leading a company specializing in commercial work trucks and accessories. My focus on innovation and risk management, honed through my engineering experience, helps me steer our product development towards cutting-edge solutions. This approach is instrumental in leading a forward-thinking company like EAVX, where we strive to integrate the latest technologies and methodologies in our operations," he noted.
Keeping Ahead of Trends
Staying ahead of industry trends and responding to market needs is crucial to the success of any business today, and Hope understands this well. During his time at Morgan Olson working on walk-in body initiatives, everything from customer needs to sustainability had to be kept in mind.
"The decision to establish a research and development group and embark on the electric-powered walk-in van body initiative stemmed from a growing demand for advanced, environmentally conscious solutions. Our clients, including major entities like the Postal System, increasingly seek efficient and sustainable options. Recognizing this trend, enhancing our R&D capabilities to stay ahead of the curve was imperative. The initiative also responded to the broader industry shift toward electrification and sustainable practices, aligning Morgan Olson with these evolving market needs," Hope explained.
How does he keep up with it all? Hope actively engages in continuous learning and networking to stay abreast of industry trends and changes.
“This involves participating in key industry events, collaborating with experts, and maintaining a strong network of partners and consultants. This external engagement complements our internal research and development efforts, ensuring that the latest industry insights and innovations inform our decision-making process. Integrating this knowledge into our strategic planning allows us to anticipate and adapt to market shifts more effectively."

Electrification in Fleets Today
According to Hope, the primary challenge facing EAVX is navigating the evolving landscape of the next generation of vehicles, mainly in the medium-duty commercial chassis segment.
“Our strategy involves developing dual-capability technologies that cater to internal combustion engines and electric vehicles. This balanced approach allows us to provide comprehensive solutions for our fleet customers, helping them transition smoothly in an industry where electrification is rapidly gaining momentum," he shared.
There are additional challenges that face commercial fleets looking to electrify, including battery placements and upfit needs.
"Electrification poses unique challenges, especially regarding battery pack placement and integration in commercial vehicles. We focus on seamlessly incorporating electrification into the truck body, ensuring that the upfitting process aligns with the specific needs of different work environments and duty cycles. This requires a deep understanding of electrification's technological and practical aspects, ensuring our solutions are innovative, practical, and efficient," Hope said.
Commercial fleet operators face significant challenges in electrifying their operations, particularly due to the upfront costs of transitioning to electric vehicles.
“We aim to assist them in this process, providing tailored solutions that meet their needs and budget. By integrating electrification into their fleet, they can also benefit from reduced operating costs and improved environmental performance. We are committed to working with our customers to achieve their sustainability goals and drive innovation in the commercial work truck and accessory industry,” Hope added.

As the new President of EAVX, Hope’s vision is to drive the company toward becoming a trailblazer in the commercial work truck and accessory industry.
“This effort involves embracing current technologies and anticipating future trends, particularly in sustainable solutions. My goal is to spearhead initiatives focusing on reducing environmental impact while enhancing efficiency and productivity,” Hope said.
These efforts include developing strategies for integrating renewable energy sources and advancing materials science to create more efficient and environmentally friendly vehicle components.
Hopes leadership style is centered on collaborative innovation.
“I believe in fostering an environment where ideas can be freely exchanged, and every team member feels valued and empowered. This approach not only motivates but also drives our team towards excellence.
