The all-new, all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning and F-150 Lightning Pro have officially launched. This highly anticipated electric pickup truck has captured the interest and imaginations of fleet managers and drivers alike.

Purpose-built for commercial customers and with a starting MSRP of $39,974 before tax incentives, the 4x4 F-150 Lightning Pro standard range battery targets an EPA-estimated 230-mile range and includes a complimentary 32-amp Ford Mobile Charger.

These, among a few other options, are helping make the transition affordable for small- and medium-sized fleet businesses.

The Power Behind the Truck

Targeted to generate 580 horsepower and 775 lb.-ft. of torque with its standard lithium-ion battery, the base truck has a targeted 2,000-pound maximum payload capacity. It targets up to 5,000 pounds of towing capability — and up to 10,000 pounds with the optional Max Trailer Tow package.

The maximum payload is based on accessories and vehicle configuration for all models.

“F-150 Lightning Pro represents so much more than an electric workhorse - it’s made for commercial customers inside and out, it gets better over time, and it’s totally plugged into always-on services that can help business productivity,” said Jim Farley, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company. “As more companies commit to go carbon neutral, they are going to expect electric products that can integrate into their operations easily. Ford is uniquely positioned to answer this call because we have a zero-emissions pickup and van, many of our customers want both vehicles in their fleet.”

For fleets looking for more power, towing, and range, the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro can be optioned as an extended range version with a targeted EPA-estimated range of 320 miles and a starting MSRP of $49,974 before tax incentives. This option includes an 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, which enables affordable Level 2 overnight charging using battery-friendly AC power when combined with the included onboard dual chargers.

Built for Work Truck Fleets

The Ford F-150 Lightning Pro electric has been durability tested just as all F-Series trucks are. Millions of miles of testing have been completed at Ford facilities across the U.S.

F-150 Lightning Pro will be offered in a full-size four-door, five-passenger SuperCrew configuration. A full-size spare tire is mounted under the 5.5-foot cargo bed, which has similar mounting points to the current F-150 for easy upfitting and a standard Class IV hitch.

The Mega Power Frunk is a high-tech cargo area with four 120-volt AC Pro Power Onboard electrical outlets and two USB ports for work truck fleets looking for on-site power and workspace. The Frunk also features a water-tight space with 400 cubic feet of storage to hold tools and gear.

Pro Power Onboard is a built-in AC power source that comes standard with 2.4 kilowatts of capability through four outlets in the Mega Power Frunk, two more in the cabin and two in the bed.

Available 9.6-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard — with enough power to rip up to 30 miles of half-inch plywood on a single charge on the extended-range battery — adds two more 120V and a 240-volt AC outlet in the bed. Both versions automatically adjust the truck’s battery range estimates as power is used.

Ideal for fleet managers, you can set parameters for power usage. If Pro Power Onboard depletes the battery charge level to the point the truck cannot reach a charge location, it will shut down automatically or based on a pre-determined customer setting to prevent the truck from becoming stranded.

Tech to the Rescue

In addition to the ability to set parameters for power usage, the F-150 Lightning Pro features additional smart tech to help fleet drivers accomplish any job.

Intelligent Range and FordPass Power My Trip plus the available Onboard Scales work to give F-150 Lightning customers more accurate vehicle range estimates based on actual towing experiences and real-time energy use, while Trailer Profile remembers their trailer specifics so the system can associate energy use for each trailer used.

“We know many F-150 Lightning customers will be first-time electric vehicle owners who expect that familiar Built Ford Tough capability along with robust towing,” said Linda Zhang, chief engineer, F-150 Lightning. “That’s why we created smart technologies to help take the worry out of towing long distances by giving customers more reliable and accurate range calculations, and then automatically locate charge points along the way if needed.”

Intelligent range collects key vehicle data to determine how much electrical energy drivers use in real-time. This includes traffic speed, ambient temperature, available battery energy, plus driver habits, climate control use, and route topography.

With F-150 Lightning, Intelligent Range can also sample similar towing and energy use situations to further refine range calculations in real time. This happens automatically through available Ford Onboard Scales, which communicate with Intelligent Range. As range data improves and the system becomes more robust, the system can be further refined via Ford Power-Up over-the-air software updates.

And, bringing more confidence to electric towing experiences, FordPass Power My Trip is an online mapping system where drivers can plan-out their trips.
