Harbinger introduced the HC Series Cab, a new medium-duty low-cab-forward (LCF) work truck platform available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid configurations, during Work Truck Week 2026 in Indianapolis.

The HC Series Cab expands Harbinger’s medium-duty lineup and is designed to support a wide range of vocational applications, including box trucks, flatbeds, and stake beds. The platform carries a gross vehicle weight rating up to 26,000 pounds and is engineered to maximize payload while maintaining a compact footprint.

According to Harbinger, the low cab forward architecture allows fleets to run longer cargo boxes on shorter wheelbases, increasing usable cargo volume without increasing overall vehicle length. The design also targets improved maneuverability and urban drivability.

The HC Series Cab is available to order now.

Offering Electric and Hybrid Configurations

Harbinger will offer the platform as both a battery-electric vehicle and a range-extended plug-in hybrid.

The hybrid configuration uses a gasoline engine to recharge the vehicle’s batteries, extending range to up to 500 miles, depending on the drive cycle and upfit configuration. The range extender can also recharge the batteries while the vehicle is stationary, allowing the truck to generate power even when parked.

Both electric and hybrid versions support exportable power via an onboard AC inverter that delivers up to 15 kilowatts. In the hybrid model, the system can sustain continuous power generation for tools and equipment without a separate generator.

The platform also supports power take-off (PTO) functionality for hydraulic and body-mounted equipment.

Designed for Tight Routes and Frequent Stops

The HC Series Cab is built for urban and regional fleet operations, where maneuverability and driver visibility are often critical.

A 158-inch wheelbase configuration delivers a turning diameter of about 42 feet, which the company said is best-in-class for the segment. By comparison, similar diesel trucks in the category can exceed 46 feet.

The truck’s low frame height, approximately 29 inches at GVWR, is designed to improve entry, exit, and loading efficiency for drivers making frequent stops. The platform also uses independent front suspension and electric drivetrain responsiveness to improve ride quality and handling.

Platform Built Around Electric Architecture

Unlike many electric work trucks adapted from internal combustion platforms, the HC Series Cab is built on Harbinger’s vertically integrated electric vehicle architecture.

The company designs and manufactures major vehicle systems in-house, including the powertrain, battery system, steering, and braking systems. Shared components across Harbinger vehicles are intended to simplify maintenance and streamline service parts for fleets.

Harbinger said the electric drivetrain reduces routine maintenance, while a modular front-end design simplifies repairs and helps improve uptime. The platform is engineered to meet durability targets of exceeding 450,000 miles.

Expanded Safety and Driver Technology

Harbinger also plans to expand advanced driver assistance systems across its medium-duty lineup in 2026 following its acquisition of Phantom AI.

Planned features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and other driver-assist systems designed to improve safety and fleet protection.

The HC Series Cab also incorporates existing features, including backup cameras with dynamic trajectory guidance, virtual bumpers, and acoustic vehicle alert systems.

Available Configurations and Applications

The platform will be available in multiple wheelbase configurations, with cargo bodies ranging from roughly 16 to 26 feet, depending on the chassis.

Harbinger designed the chassis to support multiple vocational upfits, including box trucks, flatbeds, and stake bodies, enabling fleets to tailor the platform to a range of applications.
