Workhorse’s W56 step van is now eligible for up to $85,000 in California HVIP incentives, giving fleets a lower entry point for adopting electric trucks.

Workhorse Group announced that its W56 step van now qualifies for $85,000 in base incentives per vehicle through California’s Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). The program reopened this week for voucher submissions.

Workhorse Certified Dealer Kingsburg Truck Sales is submitting more than 20 voucher requests on behalf of customers who ordered W56 vans ahead of the reopening. Allocations are expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, and the company anticipates additional demand as orders increase.

“Our goal is to build electric trucks fleets can use right away,” said Rick Dauch, Workhorse CEO. “With HVIP, California fleets of up to 50 trucks can cut the cost of a W56 by at least $85,000. These vehicles are already in service on delivery routes, and the incentives will help expand adoption.”

In addition to the HVIP announcement, Workhorse is showcasing the W56 this week at the FedEx Forward Service Provider Summit in Orlando, Florida. The step van on display reflects vehicles already operating with FedEx Express and Independent Service Providers in California and other states, where they have logged tens of thousands of delivery miles.

The W56 is offered in 178-inch and 208-inch wheelbase options with 1,000 or 1,200 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The model is designed and built in Union City, Indiana.
