Construction Research: Can an Electric Forklift Withstand Below-Freezing Weather?
New JLG Options for Compact Crawler Boom Lifts
JLG Industries compact crawler boom lift models, X770AJ and X1000AJ, now have bi-energy technology available for reducing noise and exhaust emissions.

JLG Industries, an Oshkosh Corporation company, now offers new a compact crawlers — X660SJ straight-jib (SJ) compact crawler boom lift — and new Bi-Energy technology on its X770AJ and X1000AJ compact crawler boom lifts.
X660SJ Compact Crawler Boom Lift
With 65-ft 7-in of platform height, 500 lbs of capacity for up to two workers, 39 ft of horizontal reach and indoor/outdoor versatility, the new JLG X660SJ model is ideal for a wide range of applications, including arboriculture, painting, general maintenance, electrical, HVAC and window washing, on a variety of job sites, such as auditoriums, arenas, atriums and outdoor structures.
Other performance-enhancing features the X660SJ is equipped with include:
Envelope tracking operation for work alongside buildings, walls and other infrastructure. With a single control function, operators can boom up/down, while also telescoping out/in, so that the platform travels a path perpendicular to the ground
Multiple position, one-touch self-leveling outriggers to provide flexibility to work in tight areas and to maximize the working envelope
"Go Home" and "Back to Work" functions for ease of returning to stowed or recorded work position. Software optimizes the path to the stowed or saved work position based on machine stability
The X660SJ comes standard with a Kubota diesel engine, but a lithium-ion battery and AC drive system option is available, as is JLG’s new bi-energy option.
Bi-Energy Technology
This technology reduces the machines’ noise and exhaust emissions. The system equips these JLG machines with two (2) full-sized, independent power sources, combining an emissions-free lithium-ion battery pack with a dependable diesel engine to allow operators to work indoors and outside with one machine.
With this option, operators can choose the best power source for the application (either the engine or the lithium-ion batteries). This dual power source design means that JLG Bi-Energy models can be used in a wide variety of settings — from general greenfield construction projects to environmentally sensitive job sites,” Patterson added.

JLG now offers Bi-Energy technology on two popular compact crawler boom lift models.

Utilizing Technology for Boom Lifts
The X770AJ comes with a 100Ah 76V lithium-ion battery pack, while the X1000AJ has a 150Ah 76V lithium-ion battery pack; the lithium-ion batteries can be charged from an outlet at any time, including while the machine is in use. Both machines have a Kubota D902 21.6-hp at 3,200 rpm diesel engine.
With these features, Patterson says that JLG’s Bi-Energy X770AJ and X1000AJ compact crawler boom lift models are ideally suited for use in cold weather applications and are also useful in:
Airport and aviation.
Building construction and restoration.
Cleaning.
Data centers.
Electrical.
Facility and grounds maintenance.
Hvac.
Industrial and petrochemical facilities.
Plumbing and warehouse applications.
The new Bi-Energy option will be available on additional JLG compact crawler boom lifts in the future.
In recent news, JLG announced in October it’s expanding its network of authorized service providers. This will include:
Equipment repair.
Warranty.
Maintenance.
Inspections.
Parts.
